House Renovation Reviews
Employing a contractor to complete a house renovation can be daunting, but I have to say, from the moment I met Ben from Ben Butler Brickwork, I was filled with confidence. Him and his team have continually been polite and friendly. Ben shows commitment and dedication to the job and is always works to the highest standard while remaining to the initial quote. Ben and the team obviously have experience in their trade. I couldn’t have asked for a better builder to complete the job. My home was always left tidy and every aspect of the job was discussed with me. I would certainly recommend Ben. Thanks! ★★★★★

We can provide various types of renovations
House extensions increase the actual footprint or volume of the home and almost always require Building Regulations approval.
- Single-Storey Rear Extension: Often used to create large, open-plan kitchen/diner spaces.
- Side-Return Extension: Common in Victorian terraced houses, utilizing the narrow “alley” at the side of the house.
- Double-Storey Extension: Adding both living space on the ground floor and an extra bedroom/bathroom above.
- Wraparound Extension: A combination of side and rear extensions, creating an ‘L’ shaped addition.
- Porch Construction: A small front extension to create a mudroom or improved entrance.
Focusing on making existing, underutilised areas of the home habitable.
- Loft Conversion: Transforming the attic into a bedroom or office. Types include Dormer (protruding windows), Velux (roof light only), or Hip-to-Gable.
- Garage Conversion: Turning an integrated or detached garage into a gym, office, or “granny annex.”
- Basement/Cellar Conversion: Waterproofing (tanking) and finishing a lower level.
- Barn Conversion: A major structural project turning a non-residential rural building into a home.
Changing the “flow” of the house without necessarily adding new square footage.
- Open-Plan Living: Removing load-bearing walls (using RSJs or steel beams) to merge kitchens, dining, and living rooms.
- Broken-Plan Living: Using partial walls, glass partitions, or levels to define spaces while keeping an open feel.
- Garage-to-Kitchen Integration: Knocking through to an attached garage to expand the main kitchen.
The “high-value” renovations that provide the best return on investment (ROI).
- Full Kitchen Overhaul: New cabinetry, integrated appliances, and often updated plumbing/electrics.
- Bathroom/En-suite Installation: Modernizing fixtures or carving out a new small bathroom from an existing bedroom or under-stairs space.
- Utility Room Addition: Reconfiguring space to create a dedicated laundry/boot room.
Focused on the “envelope” and longevity of the building.
- Sympathetic/Period Restoration: Restoring original features like sash windows, fireplaces, and decorative cornicing in Victorian or Edwardian homes.
- Roof Replacement: Stripping and re-tiling/slating, often including new fascias, soffits, and guttering.
- External Rendering or Re-pointing: Updating the look of the brickwork or adding modern K-Rend/silicone render.
- Window & Door Replacement: Upgrading to double/triple glazing or high-security composite doors.
Modern renovations focused on efficiency and reducing bills.
- Insulation Upgrades: Internal/external wall insulation or loft insulation.
- Heating Systems: Replacing old boilers with Air Source Heat Pumps or installing underfloor heating (UFH).
- Solar Panel Installation: Adding PV panels and battery storage.
